This is a very basic looking curved cabinet made of composite wood with four 3" mid-woofers and two 1" soft dome tweeters. If the speaker bar is shelf mounted, the height may affect the ability to control the remote to your television. The speaker bar is quite compact, less than 36" width, 4" high and 4" deep. If anyone is unaware, this was designed by noted speaker designer/engineer Andrew Jones and, when you consider his constraints with size and price, I consider this to be one of his more remarkable accomplishments. However, if you are looking for accurate sound at an extremely reasonable cost, the Pioneer SB-23 speaker bar should be on your audition list. For those looking for sound bouncing off the walls and the sound field extending wall-to-wall and behind, please look elsewhere. Let me begin by saying this is not the sound bar for everyone. Vizio recommends an HDMI cable, not included.A speaker for music lovers and critical listeners Included in the box are a remote control along with Toslink, coaxial and RCA analog-to-3.5mm cables. The Vizio comes with a wireless sub that connects via Bluetooth so you don’t miss any rumbles at the low end. DTS TruVolume levels the overall volume after you choose a desired level, and night mode dials back the bass so you don’t bother others with late-night viewing. Get virtual surround tailored for soundbars via Dolby Digital and DTS TruSurround from this Vizio 42-inch classic soundbar. It measures 35 inches wide removable feet are included. Download an iOS or Android app and control music from your smartphone via Bluetooth in stereo mode. Clear Voice hones the dialog and UniVolume steadies sound levels between content and commercials. Under the hood it boasts Dolby and DTS decoding for soundbars, delivering up to 7.1-channel surround sound for an immersive experience. Two bass ports enhance low-frequency response to eliminate the need for a separate sub box. The YAS-103 assigns 30 watts a side to the left and right front drivers and 60 watts to a pair of 3-inch downfiring subwoofers. Yamaha has been doing soundbars for a very long time and has it down. The 450 comes with a remote control and one-meter coaxial and Toslink cables to connect to a TV. The 450’s output leveling feature keep commercials’ volume at reasonable levels. No longer do you have to scramble for the volume control when a loud commercial comes on. AccuVoice brings dialog forward and adds clarity. Streaming music gets top-level treatment via an aptX Bluetooth receiver. The 50-watt system includes a pair of 5.25-inch drivers that deliver bass down to 45 Hz. Inside is ZVOX’s own virtual surround sound processing, which manipulates the phase of the separate channels to “fool the ear” into sensing sound coming from various spots in the room. The Soundbase 450 was designed to hold TVs with screen sizes from 32-50 inches. The ZVOX 450 is actuually a soundbase, in fact ZVOX invented the term “soundbase” and has been making them longer than anyone. As with speakers in general, higher quality soundbars can run well over a grand or two, but here are three top choices that you can score for a trio of Benjamins. Those who want more punch can get a soundbar with a separate subwoofer. Some soundbars pack Bluetooth receivers and double as music speakers so you can stream tunes from your phone when not watching TV. Soundbars tend to scale in power to match TV width. The bigger the room, the more power you’ll need. They can also include surround-sound, dialog enhancers, and nighttime modes to allow you to hear a soundtrack at low volume levels without disturbing sleeping members of the household. Typically soundbars house multiple speaker drivers that produce high, medium and low frequencies to deliver a fuller range of sound than what’s possible from a TV speaker. Soundbars come in two shapes: tubular designs that mount beneath a TV or rectangular enclosures that a TV stand rests on. For them there’s the soundbar, a single enclosure that packs multiple speakers delivering stepped-up sound from compact box. You can beef up the sound with a full-on surround-sound system with dedicated speakers positioned around the room, but many people don’t have that option due to space, budget or design. Not only does a movie soundtrack sound skimpy coming from a flat-panel TV, but dialog is often difficult to understand, too.įortunately, there are options to bring the audio up to the level of the picture. Unfortunately, audio quality hasn’t kept up as speakers have had to squeeze into slimmer designs. Each new generation of TVs brings a bigger, better picture from thinner and thinner screens.
